Jewellery Care

With time and wear, sterling silver and gold vermeil jewellery will naturally and eventually tarnish. However, taking care of and storing your jewellery properly can make a huge difference on the lifespan of your pieces! We recommend the following tips to ensure your Oriana Catton Jewellery stays looking as beautiful and new as the day you got them.

Tips for wear:

  • Remove jewellery before applying lotions, perfumes, sprays or creams
  • Always remove jewellery before swimming, as the chemicals in swimming pools can cause extreme tarnishing
  • Avoid wearing your jewellery into the shower or bath

Storage:

  • Sterling silver and gold vermeil jewellery is best stored in a cool, dry, dark place. Do not store in bathrooms or in exposed direct sunlight.
  • The best way to store your silver and gold vermeil pieces is in a sealed plastic bag or airtight box. Keeping the air out will go a long way in preventing oxidation.
  • If the jewellery has not been worn for long periods of time, occasional cleaning is recommended to remove tarnish and maintain its shine.
  • To avoid damage, store pieces separately so that they don't rub and scratch against each other.
  • If you live in a particularly humid environment, storing your jewellery with a silica gel crystal packet can help reduce tarnish.

Cleaning:

  • Wipe your jewellery with a soft, non-abrasive cloth (e.g. microfiber) to maintain its shine.
  • For a proper clean, wash using warm water and a mild dish soap, rinse, then polish dry with a soft cloth. Always ensure the jewellery is completely dry before storing.
